This whole-house remodel reimagined a 1950s mid-century modern home for its artist owner, updating nearly every element with a color-forward design palette, while preserving select original features and character — and without changing the tri-level home’s footprint. 

Brio expanded the mudroom, added a new, larger kitchen island, and widened the transition between the kitchen and great room. A new fireplace, with a wall-cladding surround that extends from hearth to ceiling, anchors the great room. The fully renovated kitchen’s terra-cotta backsplash adds to the distinctive, handcrafted aesthetic.

The former sunroom is now an art studio with an arched entryway, decorative lighting, a wall-mounted sink and tilework, art supply storage and a built-in desk.

On the second floor, Brio expanded the primary bathroom and remodeled three bedrooms, a bathroom and a hallway. The lower-level renovation includes an updated playroom and sitting area, as well as a bathroom, bedroom and laundry room.

In the basement, Brio infilled the fireplace, replaced the wood paneling with drywall, added a new ceiling and finished the storage spaces.
